Why no David Slade com men tary on the DVD?

I don’t do com men taries on films because A) I’m not very good at it and B) it’s an odd thing that I dis cov ered, on my first film, that you go through this really intense expe ri ence of mak ing a film and then you sit in a lit tle room with a mon i tor and you reduce the thing to a bunch of silly anec dotes. It’s really unfull fill ing and I’ve never really enjoyed lis ten ing to them any way, so I just don’t do them. I’ve made a point, since then, of not doing them.

Memorable take-aways

The scene where Char lie (Billy Burke) and Bella (Kris ten Stew art) have the dis cus sion in the kitchen, which starts out as try ing to explore whether she under stands this need for mar riage and turns into this admis sion of being a vir gin, was gen uinely fun because both actors have great comic tim ing. It wasn’t about going in to find the joke. The joke was there, and every thing was actu ally a bonus. I remem ber that being tons of fun.
